I'm a non-traditional martial arts student, taking up tae kwon do and kickboxing late in life. I struggle constantly with physical issues (old injuries, slow responses) and mental ones (fear and self-doubt) as well.

But I press on...

One, because I find the study of martial arts teaches me a lot about myself, my art and life in general. I am a better person for my studies.

Two, because I have been blessed with good teachers whose instruction reaches far beyond the martial arts.

This is the main reason I continue to study at Rouleau's Tae Kwon Do. I enjoy my classmates, and the workout is intense. But what I really appreciate is the their quality of instruction, and their integrity. Techniques are well-taught and beautifully demonstrated. Their knowledge base is sound. Training is consistent and well-rounded. Whatever obstacle I find before me, there are instructors who understand exactly where I am and who know exactly what I need to take my next step. They even know when those next steps are ones I need to discover for myself.

I am deeply grateful to have such an incredible school so accessible to me. I am thankful I have found a place there--even on the days when I feel hopelessly OUT of place. I know that at this moment in time, that's where I belong.
